Welcome to the website of Fiona Birkbeck's latest short film, Substitute. It was previously called Substitution.

June 2010 Update :

Whilst getting things ready for the screening I heard from the Arts Council that they have selected two of my short films to be shown at Glastonbury Festival this year.

January 2010 Update:

We have nearly completed the film. Details to follow soon.

October 2009:

Recently a short film script of mine, Beached was chosen for Tracy Gillman's Screen Test, a rehearsed reading by professional actors. When I heard Gordon Poad, the actor picked to play the lead, say my character's lines out loud the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. He WAS that character. It was if I'd written the words just for him. Spurred on by the encouraging feedback I received about the script I decided to seize the day and make the film before winter kicks in.

My previous films had been fully funded so this was going to be quite a challenge. In just over a week I managed to pull together my cast, some damn fine locations, an excellent director of photography and editor and soon we had other very talented crew join our team. And thanks to the wonderful support of a certain person/company (to be named later) we are shooting on one of the best cameras-new technology around, the Red. I hope you enjoy exploring this website built by Altro Design.

If you'd like further details about this project please don't hesitate to contact me. There is a little synopsis of the story here on the website but for those of you who aren’t big football fans don’t worry. This isn’t just a football film. It is about courage, love and hope - all in the space of ten minutes. Am I ambitious or what?!

The film is now called Substitution and we are shooting in just over a week's time.

Please support us if you can.
